Collective bargaining conciliation update - Faculty and Professional Support
Feb. 23, 2024 – Statement
Bargaining teams with the Atlantic Academic Union (AAU) and NSCC met with conciliation officers this week on February 21 and 22 with the goal of reaching collective agreements on behalf of Faculty and Professional Support colleagues.
Many proposals were resolved before conciliation and the College was hopeful these meetings would help resolve the remaining items. Unfortunately, the scheduled conciliation meetings ended without full agreement.
The next step in the bargaining process is for the conciliation officers to file a report with the Minister Labour, Skills and Immigration indicating the AAU and College have reached an impasse. Once filed, a 14-day cooling off period will begin where no legal job action can take place. The required 48-hour notice of job action can be provided anytime during or after the cooling off-period and within 6 months of an impasse being declared. It is important to note that an impasse does not mean a strike is certain.
NSCC remains committed to reaching collective agreements that will strengthen the working and learning environment for both employees and students, without the need for job action.
Approximately 1,000 faculty and professional support employees (full-time and term) are represented by the AAU.
