Information for community organizations

We want to ensure that community service organizations are invested in the applicant’s potential to succeed at College. While there is no standard formula to assess this, the following are some themes to consider when completing your reference:

  • What type of relationship does the applicant have with your agency?
  • What role will your agency play in ensuring a successful transition to College for the applicant?
  • Does the applicant demonstrate indicators for success as a College student?
  • Will your agency help the applicant make a financial plan to attend College or refer them to a professional who can?

Testimonials from community service organizations

This award is a great opportunity to assist students entering NSCC with their finances. It also benefits communities by seeing more individuals get educated who may not have been able to without this funding.

Juanita Byard
Black Educators Association (BEA) – Strait Region

It is difficult to measure or put into words how many times I have spoken to individuals who did not think that an NSCC diploma would be in their reach, but then when I tell them about this award I not only witness instant relief, but a sense of hope that it is possible for them to attend College. This award has changed the trajectory for so many students, making it truly life changing.
