Land Acknowledgement

NSCC is located in Mi’kma’ki, the unceded territory and traditional homeland of the Mi’kmaq Nation. Our relationship is based on a series of peace and friendship treaties between the Mi’kmaq Nation and the Crown, dating back to 1725.

As Treaty beneficiaries, we recognize that we are all Treaty People.

Irving Shipbuilding and NSCC launch program for marine industry Irving Shipbuilding Inc. and NSCC announced the Irving Shipbuilding Marine Trades Initiative, creating 80 new, fully funded trades seats NSCC this September. The new initiative will offer specialized training in welding, metal fabrication, and pipe trades, equipping students with the essential skills required in today's evolving marine sector.

NSCC’s ‘Touch of Class’ event paves the way for future students The classrooms for NSCC’s Hospitality, Tourism, Culinary and Baking programs at Akerley Campus are equipped with kitchens and full working bars, ensuring students have a well-rounded, hands-on experience. Students also take part in an annual event called Touch of Class, connecting graduating students with the community for a culinary and hospitality experience.

NSCC to launch wind turbine technician program in 2026 As the local industry grows, NSCC is launching a one-year Wind Turbine Technician program at Strait Area Campus, set to begin in fall 2026. The program will be a first in Nova Scotia and was developed in consultation with industry leaders, reflecting the province’s push towards green energy.
