New skilled trades offerings just announced

A woman in safety glasses with her hair pulled back is seen working with a huge table saw in a workshop setting.

260 new seats have just been added across NSCC campuses around the province as part of a Nova Scotia government initiative to recruit and train more people in the skilled trades.

Reasons to enter the skilled trades

  • A college-based trades program can be a quicker path – for instance, certificates can be earned in 1 year while a diploma can be completed in 2, with many new accelerated options that take even less time.
  • College tuition tends to be much lower than university, especially considering the time it takes to complete a 4-year degree.
  • Nova Scotia is facing an unprecedented need for talent, which means a huge demand for skilled trade workers.
  • You can make good money in the skilled trades. Median incomes range from $15,200 in the low end to $90,000 at the high end, with an average median of $40,000.
