This posting will be used to fill multiple full-time term positions and will also be used to fill future anticipatory permanent, term and AOC vacancies within Continuing Care. The job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

This opportunity
Reporting to the Supervisor of Therapeutic Services, this position assists in providing goal-oriented programs and services tailored to meet the leisure-related needs of residents/clients aiming to achieve the desired quality of life outcomes, as directed by the Recreation Therapist.

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the essential qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
· Recreational Therapy Assistant Diploma (or a similar qualification may be considered).
· Recent and relevant experience supporting the implementation of recreational therapy programs in a healthcare setting.
Candidates who have training and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may also be considered.

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability
If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on the following:
Person-centered practices.
Adaptive strategies for accommodating residents with limitations.
· Group facilitation techniques.
· Safe body mechanics while supporting residents to mobilize in-house and on outings
· Knowledge of the pathology of a variety of disease processes, including various dementias.
· Experience in implementing recreation therapist-directed care plans.

Valid Class 4 driver’s licence Job requirements This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to the following:
· Loading, unloading, and transporting residents on the bus, including securing wheelchairs.
· Driving a bus.
· Bending, stretching, reaching.
· Lifting up to 30 lbs.
· Exposure to animals, second-hand smoke and other irritants
