76.34 Student Code of Conduct for NSCC Global Skills Opportunity Programs

The NSCC Global Skills Opportunity Programs (GSO) are unique academic opportunities where the environment is the classroom. GSO provides exceptional learning opportunities because they take place in various countries and cultures. The legal system, societal norms, and styles of communication, among others, may be different from what GSO participants are accustomed to in Canada. GSO participants will act as representatives of NSCC and will be in close contact with colleagues from NSCC’s partner institution(s). GSO participants must conduct themselves in accordance with NSCC policies including:

  • Respectful Community
  • Student Code of Conduct
  • Employee Code of Conduct
  • Sexual Violence
  • Academic Integrity
  • Academic Accommodations
  • Educational Equity

In addition to the above NSCC policies, GSO participants must adhere to the laws of the host country. Any conduct that contravenes the laws of the host country, jeopardizes the safety of participants of the GSO, NSCC faculty, or members of the partner institution, disrupts the delivery of the GSO, violates the rules and regulations established in good faith by the accompanying NSCC faculty and/or staff member(s), or detracts in a substantial way from the learning environment, among other deviations from expected behaviour, will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the GSO.

The NSCC faculty and/or staff member(s) accompanying the GSO are the final authority for decisions related to participant conduct up to and including removal from the GSO. In instances where the GSO is not led by an NSCC employee, the NSCC International Director is the final authority, in consultation with the local partner institution.

If the NSCC (or the NSCC International Director, as the case may be) removes a participant from the GSO or if the participant leaves voluntarily, the balance of the funds paid for participation in the GSO will not be refunded unless such refunds are returned to NSCC from the relevant vendor(s). The affected participant is personally responsible for all costs incurred due to early departure and is personally responsible for organizing travel arrangements for return to Canada. NSCC accepts no responsibility or liability for any participant NSCC removes from the GSO or who leaves the GSO program voluntarily.

Application for, payment of, and participation in the GSO constitutes acceptance of the terms of the GSO, including the content, length and location of the program, the terms outlined in this Participant Code as well as payment schedule, deadlines, and amount.
