“Winter solstice is a time to take a pause and to reflect, as sleeping animals do while they dream and rest in hibernation. Our neighbour the red cardinal comes to visit, bringing forth strength and love.

Peaceful bears, in blissful harmony in winter, remind us to be kind to ourselves and each other. Cardinals are special and come to visit during difficult times and symbolize new beginnings, and are a bright symbol of hope and joy, particularly near the holidays.” - Jessica Jerome

About the artist:
Jessica Jerome is a two-spirit Mi’kmaq artist. She was born in the Listuguj Mi'kmaq First Nation and raised as a member of the Gesgapegiag Band along the banks of the Gaspé Coast. Dreams, emotions, and the beauty of the colours in nature, rivers and animals of the Appalachian Mountains inspires her work which is rooted in tradition with a contemporary vision.
