The Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ (RHFAC) Fundamentals Training

Overview
In the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ (RHFAC) Fundamentals Training course, you learn how to understand the needs of people with disabilities and how to apply universal design to help create a world without barriers. You get to know the RHFAC rating and recognition program which measures the meaningful accessibility of built and social environments.
This 4-week introductory course is delivered fully online and is self-directed. There are no pre-requisites for this course.
Program highlights
You learn:
- How to understand the scope and prevalence of disability in the community.
- How to describe how people with disabilities experience the social and physical environment.
- How to demonstrate confidence in communicating and interacting with people with disabilities.
- Universal design and meaningful accessibility for people with disabilities and how to apply them in the built environment.
- Fundamental legal framework affecting people with disabilities.
Program information
- This course is delivered in partnership with University of Alberta.
- This is a fully online, self-directed course.
- Participants will have 4 weeks to complete the course.
- Training includes 3 modules containing video interviews of people with lived experience, leading subject matter experts and case studies:
- Understanding Disability
- Understanding our Build Environment
- Measuring Accessibility in the Built Environment
- This course includes 2 optional virtual sessions and online discussions facilitated by an RHFAC expert. Attendance is highly recommended but optional to pass this course. Sessions will be recorded. Session dates and times will be communicated by the coach once the course begins.
- Participants must take 3 module quizzes and earn a passing grade of 80% or higher on each to complete the course.
- Participants will be issued a certificate and a badge upon successful completion of the course.
- Course materials are available with view-only access 1 month after the end of the 4-week course.
Note: Completion of the RHFAC Fundamentals Training course does not qualify students for RHFAC professional designation.
