Health and wellness supports

Access crisis supports

Your health and wellness are key contributors to your academic success as a college student. Explore what you can do now to take care of your wellbeing as an NSCC student.

Know how to access wellness resources

Don't wait until you're feeling overwhelmed by personal or academic challenges to seek help. Take time to learn how to access counselling and explore online and community resources available to you as an NSCC student.

All NSCC students (including apprenticeship students, customized students, etc.) have access to mywellness mental health and wellness program, which provides access to a free, online mental health and wellness tool, financial support services and 3 free hours of virtual counselling.

Learn about student health benefits

We have a number of health and wellness programs available for students. Find additional details about health benefit programs noted below including associated costs.

Student health and dental plan

Full-time students automatically receive health and dental benefits (including prescription and immunization coverage along with dental and vision care). Learn about health and dental benefit information, like eligibility exceptions, family coverage details and deadlines for opting in/out.

myvirtualdoctor

Full-time and part-time students in programs 15 weeks or longer have access to this virtual health care service that provides 24/7 access to health care practitioners. Learn more about myvirtualdoctor, including how to opt out.

International emergency health insurance

In addition to the student health benefits programs outlined above, international students are enrolled in an emergency health insurance plan to provide coverage for emergency-related medical treatments. If you're an international student and are covered by the Nova Scotia provincial health care plan (MSI), you may wish to opt out. Learn about what's covered including how to opt out.

Review your immunizations

By reviewing your immunization history, you can help protect yourself against preventable diseases like COVID-19, influenza, and Meningococcal B. This is especially important if you are living in a group setting like on-campus housing or if you have roommates. Learn about which immunizations are covered under your NSCC student health benefits plan.

Think about getting involved at your campus

Connecting with others helps increase your overall mental wellbeing, and being active and engaged in student life events and activities is a great way to meet new people, have fun and make a difference. All students are welcome to get involved, including those learning online. Find out more through NSCC Student Life and your Student Association.
