Spring 2022 Update
Caring for Communities
Every day we see the impact our donors make through the generosity of giving back. While times continue to be tough worldwide, it’s important to remember and see the strides towards positive change that impact people for life. In this update, we continue to see that there are many ways to give back and make an impact on your communities. We share with you NSCC’s Giving Tuesday success, an award breaking down barriers for Black students in the music industry, a continued legacy in the trade through a memorial endowment, safe spaces being made for students and keeping communities clean by donating cleaning supplies across the province.
Chris Murdoch’s Pathways to Rock award is combating stereotypes that Black people face in the Nova Scotia music industry. Breaking barriers for Music Arts students like Thaydra G., a mother driven by her love for music, and especially her son.
NSCC employees, alumni and partners are making an incredible impact on the lives of NSCC students through their generosity. Rallying together for Giving Tuesday 2021, they raised a grand total of $19,150 for Rapid Response and Urgent Aid.
The Folk family’s generous $1 million Adam Folk Memorial Endowment is funding its first two scholarships in the spring of 2022. The scholarships will support Plumbing students who embody Adam Folk’s legacy as a plumber and a community leader.
Thanks to donor support, NSCC’s Lunenburg Campus opened a much-needed quiet space on-campus. The space is a safe and quiet environment near campus support offices for students to take a break, whether it’s for personal, medical or religious reasons.
Through the College’s partnership with Lysol, NSCC paid it forward and worked with the Truro and Ivany Campuses to distribute 80 pallets of the in-demand sanitizing wipes to community organizations across the province.
