Career fairs and skill building for NSCC Information Technology and Marine students
Preparing for future careers
Thanks to event sponsors and industry partners of NSCC, the College hosted two events in March at NSCC’s Institute of Technology (IT) Campus and Strait Area Campus Nautical Institute to help students prepare for the next steps in their careers.
Information Technology Job Fair and Conference
On March 1, NSCC's IT Campus successfully hosted its 9th Annual Information Technology Job Fair. At the job fair 531, IT Campus students had access to professional development, networking, and career opportunities with 41 IT companies represented to make connections and learn more about potential employers, professional associations and programs.
To prepare the students for their graduate job search, the fair also offered career-related programming with activities such as speed interviews, industry connector programs, profile picture booths, resume review and feedback and portfolio presentations.
2023 Marine Skills Competition and Career Fair
On March 8-9, the Nautical Institute Marine Skills Competition and Career Fair returned as an in-person event for the first time in three years. This Competition was presented by Cooke Aquaculture and celebrated a milestone for the Institute marking its 150th anniversary.
At the Marine Skills Competition, four teams of students from the Institute’s Marine Engineering and Marine Navigation programs compete in a series of skill-testing challenges. The competition is evaluated by industry judges who evaluate teams based on knowledge, abilities and leadership skills. Day two of the event was the Career Fair, where cadets had the opportunity to meet with companies from across Canada, where more than 140 interviews took place for the students' upcoming sea placements.
