25 Books for 25 Years Giveaway
Throughout the month of August, the Foundation held a 25 Books for 25 Years Giveaway for Nova Scotian non-profits through our partnership with Atlantic Book Publisher’s Bound for Good Program. There were five bundles given away of 25 books which captured themes such as African Nova Scotian History, Mi’kmaq History, 2SLGBTQ+, and The Great Outdoors in the Maritimes.
“We have a decent collection of 2SLGBTQ+ books for elementary-aged children, but our library for young adults and older is basically nonexistent. Since opening our new drop-in centre, we have a lot of young adults using our space, and there have been requests for more books,” said Madonna Doucette, Director of Cape Breton Youth Project, the Cape Breton region giveaway winner. “Receiving these books will grow our small library, and I know the titles will be of interest to our community.”
Community members nominated charities or non-profit organizations across the province to win. The organization with the most votes for their region won, covering the regions of Annapolis Valley, Cape Breton, Halifax Regional Municipality, North Shore and South Shore regions.

We are creating a lending library for the books amongst staff and residents at Adsum House. In the first day, two staff have chosen books to read. I am cataloguing the selection at Adsum House, and we will allow staff at all locations to access the list of books and the option to loan.
We sincerely appreciate being chosen and having this selection of books on diversity and inclusion to educate the Adsum team and for clients.
Many of our SchoolsPlus staff utilize books as part of their supportive services, both in one-on-one and small group/programming settings with children and families to help guide, respond to, and meet their social and emotional needs. We feel the addition of these books to our toolboxes will have an overall positive impact on both our students, families and staff.
