Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training Program (KBEST-02)

Project/Initiative
The Coastal Region is an area in Kenya with significant potential for socio-economic
and improvement of welfare. The vision of the government is to transform the region by 2030
into a high middle-income regional population through a shared economy that creates wealth and
shared prosperity for its communities.
This institutional partnership with Kenya Coast National Polytechnic, one of the two Hub
Institutions in KBEST partnerships will focus on Tourism and Hospitality and marine related trades, that represent key Blue Economy opportunities in the Coastal Region. The partnership will also prioritize training of teachers, teaching equipment supply, industry linkages, and the Industry Advisory Committees, applied research, student career services, mentoring of county cluster institutions, leadership and management training.
Services provided
- Development and delivery of higher-level courses and will specialize in the following thematic areas: marine catering and accommodation, marine tourism and solar PV installation.
- Develop industry linkages and the Industry Advisory Committees (IAC), applied research, mentoring of county cluster institutions, leadership and management training. Stronger linkages between TVET institutions and the private sector will contribute substantially to opportunities for trainees.
- Strengthening the gender responsiveness of teaching and learning, supporting safe and inclusive spaces, training institutional managers, increasing women’s leadership and decision-making.
