I recently returned from an unforgettable three-week adventure at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen, Netherlands. As a resident of a rural underserved community in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, this study abroad opportunity not only broadened my horizons academically but also helped me overcome isolation. From the vibrant city atmosphere to the cozy accommodations at The Social Hub, and the invigorating exercise from exploring Groningen, this journey was uniquely wonderful.
Living in a rural community can be isolating, but Hanze University offered a refreshing change. The bustling city atmosphere and the inclusive community embraced me warmly. Surrounded by fellow students and locals, we shared stories and experiences, forming bonds that transcended borders.
The accommodations at The Social Hub were amazing. Located in Groningen's heart, this cozy haven provided a peaceful sanctuary. Its bright, modern rooms allowed me to recharge after lectures, projects, and explorations. Communal areas fostered connections, with game nights and shared meals embodying the spirit of community.
Groningen, with its enchanting charm, stole my heart. Picturesque canals, vibrant markets, and stunning architecture made every moment a delight. Exploring the city on foot or by bike became my daily routine, keeping me in great shape. Lively cafés and restaurants served mouthwatering Dutch delicacies, while cultural events and festivals added excitement at every turn.
Biking in Groningen was a game-changer. Pedaling along well-maintained bike paths offered freedom and a fresh perspective. Each pedal stroke filled me with energy and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
My three weeks at Hanze University in Groningen were a whirlwind of adventure, growth, and new connections. Stepping out of my comfort zone taught me the value of embracing new environments.
