Marshall LaPierre's Story
I have had the wonderful experience of spending two weeks in Austria through the International Days of Social Work program in Linz, Austria. I participated in group lectures on topics such as addictions, disabilities, communications and policy with social work students and students in related fields from across the world. In addition to in-class discussions, we had the chance to go on excursions to large and non-profit businesses. We toured a large salt mine, a harm reduction center, disability center and a local chocolate factory.
As a Criminal Justice student, it was important for me to gain new perspectives. I learned how other societies get involved to make real change. Social Work and the Criminal Justice field are very connected and learning how both can work together was enlightening. The biggest highlight of my trip was meeting so many amazing people and making connections that will last a lifetime.
