Lolita Ward's Story

Lolita Ward participates in the Happiness Now Project in Tanzania

Traveling to Africa was always a dream of mine because I needed to be connected to my roots, and I was fortunate to go twice through the Global Skills Opportunity, even though I had to fundraise the whole amount, to attend this time.

When I returned to Africa this year, it was like going back home. The reception I received when I arrived was truly exceptional. I enjoyed the hugs I received from the familiar faces of VETA VHTTI. Experiencing Tanzania was familiar, yet still so different from last year. Each excursion we took part in had its own uniqueness that gave it a new feel to the familiar. I traveled, I ate, I chatted and reconnected with friends, all while making new friends as well.

This year, I was comfortable in my own skin, and it felt like coming home. I hope I can return within my lifetime, as I am sure it will just keep getting better. If you have yet to experience a trip like this, just jump in and do it, you will not regret it. Fun and great learning comes on the other side of fear, take a chance, and live.
