Kristan Anthony's Story

Kristan Anthony in Cayman Islands in 2024

When I first entered NSCC campuses for the first time, I was unconfident and uncoordinated in the path I wanted to take, and my overall abilities. Through a passion for my campus and merit, I was one of the lucky few to attend the hedge fund course in the Cayman Islands. If you had told the same person two years later that he would be chosen to represent his campus at Nova Scotia Community College, he would’ve not believed you. Here are some amazing prospects and opportunities I have received on my once-in-a-lifetime trip abroad to the Cayman Islands for the Hedge Fund Course.

Through the vast network of connections previously established from the collaboration of the University of Cayman Islands and the various business partnerships to instruct the students, I have personally expanded my network of likeminded people as well as prominent business leaders in the hedge fund, accounting, and banking industry I would have never met back home.

As an aspiring accountant, the most important of these connections were KPMG and EY, two of the four biggest accounting firms in the world. Learning from industry leaders in a professional setting and seeing sample financial statements, application of financial data, and professional insight on future business prospects and principles that were eerily like my accounting work at NSCC added to the accomplishments of completing my accounting degree and how much NSCC coursework prepares you for the workforce.

Just as important as the business aspects of the course, the cultural aspects, and differences of the largest financial centers in the world captivated my interest, especially as someone who has never left the country before. Adjusting to the tropical climate and the culture was tough but exhilarating to head out of my comfort zone. I will never forget the times I walked on the Caribbean beaches, played with the stingrays, and all the amazing sunset views from my hotel.

Now that I am finally home, I am forever indebted to NSCC International’s diligent efforts to coordinate such an opportunity for everyone. The once unconfident unsure person is now a competing and competent business professional, eager to find his next personal pursuits.
