Kaylee Fleet's Story

Kaylee Fleet participated in the Happiness Now project in Tanzania

From the moment I arrived in Tanzania, it is everything I dreamt about and more. I was welcomed by all the students with their traditional dances, big hellos and one of many meals. The two weeks there are life changing and you learn so much from the students and faculty! During the first week, we got into our groups and started brainstorming our business ideas to run on the college grounds. Learning how to communicate with students whose first or second language is not English was an obstacle, but you learn and overcome it together! I got to experience what it was like taking the dala dala and going to a local market, it was an experience as it is very different than taking public transportation in Nova Scotia. I got to connect with the students and create long-lasting friendships. As we explored more cultural villages and businesses that are ran by women, it became very inspiring to hear their stories and how they want to change the lives of others. You pick up on many new skills when participating in this project as you work with people from diverse backgrounds and become more open about how they do things. This trip inspired people to make a change. I checked many boxes off my bucket list, learned some Swahili and gained more knowledge about the Tanzanian culture. I am incredibly grateful that NSCC International gave me this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Asante ya sana!
