Gillian Mason participated in the Social Entrepreneurship Project in Vietnam

I had the chance to travel to Vietnam for two weeks, where I was able to connect and work with some amazing students. Normally, I prefer staying close to home and taking shorter trips. I was expecting myself to feel scared the whole time, but I hoped it would push me out of my comfort zone and let me experience a new culture. I never expected to fall in love with a place so far away from home. As soon as we stepped out of the airport, I felt a sense of peace and happiness and I knew I had made the right decision to face my fears.

This trip was truly life changing for me. The hospitality and friendliness of the Vietnamese people made it easy to feel comfortable there. Wherever we went, we were greeted with smiles, waves, and hellos. I made connections on this trip that I never thought possible, especially so quickly. Returning home was bittersweet, but I am so grateful I had the opportunity to experience something that I would miss this much. I am inspired about my future and eager to continue learning, exploring new places around the world, and visiting friends in Vietnam.
