Tomás' Blog
Greetings, my name is Tomás Hernández, an international exchange student from the Dominican Republic as part of the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program scholarship. Being from the Caribbean, it was a tough decision to participate in this program mainly because of the weather and language differences, but one thing I have learned in life is that opportunities like these only come once. Since the start of my application, NSCC kept a constant interest in knowing more about what I was looking to be part of at their college, which showed me that this institution clearly welcomes the presence of international students.
When I arrived, it instantly felt like a dream, the cold breeze, the peaceful walks around the city, everything felt like I was destined to be here. One thing I loved, was how enthusiastic the faculty are in the whole institution. All of them showed that they loved what they were doing every single day, which made me happier than ever. Of course, I have to mention the best day of this whole exchange program, the day it snowed for the first time. It was always my dream to play with snow, so this experience was not only about reaching academic goals but also about fulfilling my childhood dreams.
The people, the city, and the college, all made me feel like I was at home. I am forever grateful to the Nova Scotia Community College and my home institution, PUCMM, for accepting me and providing me with the opportunity for professional and personal development.
