Anthony McCully's Story
Santorini's Fira hike is like the king of all hikes! It is a trial so famous that people dream about walking it. Well, when I got the chance to lead a small group on this trail, I knew it was something special.
With three friends ready for adventure, we set out one sunny 25 degree afternoon. We packed snacks and water, and set out to explore the landscape of Santorini. As we started hiking, the views just kept getting better. We saw cliffs and the bright blue sea stretching out forever.
Everywhere we looked, there was something amazing to see. From big views of the caldera ( a volcanic crater) to cute little villages on the cliffs, Santorini was full of surprises. We stopped often to take pictures, making sure we'd remember every moment. Halfway through, I was glad how well things were going. My worries disappeared as my friends showed how good of hikers they were.
When we finished after three and a half hours, we were a little tired but proud of ourselves. Santorini had blown us away with its beauty. We thought we had seen most of the island until doing this hike. It was totally the best way to see the island. Over dinner, we talked about our favorite parts of the day. Leading my friends on the Fira hike was a once in a lifetime experience. It was better than I ever imagined.
