Wrapping up NSCC’s 25th anniversary
Looking back
During the 2021-2022 academic year NSCC celebrated the 25th anniversary of the College.
Marking this milestone, even during uncertain and trying times, allowed us to take a step back and celebrate what our NSCC community has achieved over the past 25 years. In addition, it was an opportunity to look ahead and see the endless opportunities to support students and contribute to communities across Nova Scotia in the future.
NSCC 25th Anniversary Fund
One of the major pillars of the anniversary celebration was the creation of the NSCC 25th Anniversary Fund, with 100% of the funds raised supporting Rapid Response. Rapid Response addresses the immediate needs of students by providing funding to dedicated programs and bursaries for equity-deserving groups, food insecurity, COVID-relief and Cost of Living bursaries, emergency housing and the purchase of technologies required for learning. Through the generosity of NSCC’s community, including a first-time appeal to the broad alumni network, $27,120 was raised, surpassing our goal of $25,000 for 25 years. Although in-person activities were not feasible due to COVID-19 restrictions, a focus on virtual events and initiatives kept the College community engaged online.
How it Started, How it's Going
The ‘How it Started, How it’s Going’ social media campaign was a way for students, alumni, donors and retirees to look back on their photos and show how NSCC has made an impact on their life. The 25-Minute Learning Series showcased alumni and faculty experts with free lessons on everything from baking a holiday treat and installing a faucet, to learning Indigenous perspectives on land sustainability.
Access to history
The College also launched its first digital photo collection, an ongoing effort and legacy project that will provide an online space where everyone will be able to access these pieces of our history.
NSCC Kindness Project
The entire College community was invited to participate in the NSCC Kindness Project on March 25th. People were encouraged to do something kind for a friend, a loved one, a neighbour, a stranger or the environment. Using the hashtag #NSCCKindness, students, staff and alumni shared their kind deeds over social media. In addition, NSCC Alumni Relations, through their affinity program partner TD Insurance, matched all donations made to the 25th Anniversary Fund on March 25th.
Thinking forward
As the celebration winds down, the successes of our students and alumni continue with the creation of two new legacy awards, the Looking Forward 25 Years Award and the NSCC 25th Anniversary Legacy Award. The awards are made possible thanks to NSCC Alumni Relations as a final gift to students as we wrap up and look forward to the next 25 years together.
