Metro Emergency Housing Project
Once I knew what I wanted to do with my IT career, I knew NSCC was my only choice as the only place in the region that offers a System Administration Program. The experience so far has been wonderful. I am surrounded by great people, and the faculty go above and beyond.
One of the highlights of my IT Program at NSCC was the Information Security course. They had us working on advanced servers, the concept was to build out security features and monitoring and then have other students attack it to see what they could pick up. It’s a really fun and competitive atmosphere.
During the second semester, I found myself homeless. Without a stable place to call home, I thought my academic career was over. With the help of Lisa–a student counsellor, and the Metro Emergency Housing Project, I was able to bounce back. I am thankful to her and NSCC for enabling me to strive and persevere.
The moment I asked for help, I got it. For that, I am grateful.
When COVID hit, it became a struggle to focus in a virtual classroom for upwards of three hours. Thanks to my NSCC disability accommodation, I am able to record classes, go back, study up, and catch anything I might have missed.
Tools like Brightspace have been really helpful for staying on track of updates, schedules, and assignments.
Without a doubt, I can say that NSCC has me as a priority. It’s nice to know that my faculty and professors; they are just people. They really do care.
