Continuing a legacy in the trades through the Adam Folk Memorial Endowment
Continuing a legacy through giving
In November 2021, the Folk family, together with NSCC, announced the generous Adam Folk Memorial Endowment – a $1 million contribution through the NSCC Foundation. The endowment is in memory of Adam Folk, a plumber/heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) specialist, community leader and a big believer in two things - hard work and family. With a career spanning over 40 years, Adam rose from an apprentice in plumbing and heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) to a leader in the construction industry.
Starting in the spring of 2022, students enrolled in the Plumbing program at NSCC can apply for scholarships funded by the endowment, two $2,500 awards in its first year, with the number of annual awards increasing in future years. The awards will be presented to students based on their academic standing, financial need and who embody Adam's dedication and commitment to their community.
Our family wants this investment to serve as an encouragement for someone looking to pursue an education in plumbing, but who also might need a hand up to allow them to chase their dream.
Creating opportunity
The Folk family hopes this award will encourage those underrepresented in the field to follow trades as a pathway to a future where they can support their families and communities, just like Adam did.
"This endowment is an incredible gift. The impact it will have on individuals, their families and their communities is immeasurable," said NSCC President Don Bureaux, expressing his gratitude for the Folk family's incredible generosity. "At NSCC, we see the life-changing impact that awards have on our students who often note that, beyond financial support, awards are a source of motivation as they pursue their goals."
