Clean Foundation invests in Nova Scotia's green future through student awards at NSCC
Powering the clean energy workforce
NSCC Foundation is proud to announce a $400,000 gift from Clean Foundation in partnership with the Province of Nova Scotia to establish the new Growing the Clean Economy Award. This generous gift provides 80 bursaries valued at $5,000 each to students full-time or part-time in select NSCC programs related to the clean energy sector.
Supporting students from start to finish
The bursary program will roll out in two phases, with 30 recipients benefiting in Spring 2024 and an additional 50 in Fall 2025. The awards will cover tuition, program expenses, and cost of living relief, allowing students to focus on their studies and prepare for careers in the expanding clean energy sector.
"This initiative is a game-changer for our students," says Don Bureaux, President, NSCC. "It not only provides financial support but also reinforces the importance of the clean energy sector in Nova Scotia's future."
Fostering diversity in the green economy
The Growing the Clean Economy Award prioritizes diversity and inclusion, with preference given to applicants who self-identify as Mi'kmaq and Indigenous, Black and African Nova Scotian, racially visible, female, persons with disabilities, or 2SLGBTQ+. The award also prioritizes students who are in financial need.
"Building a clean economy requires all of us. We hope that this investment reduces barriers and creates opportunities so that Nova Scotia is positioned with a diverse skilled workforce ready to support our province’s clean energy future,” says Rob Harris, Vice President of Program Delivery, Clean Foundation.
This partnership between NSCC and the Clean Foundation is a significant step towards building a skilled, diverse workforce ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities of the green economy by removing barriers to education. As Nova Scotia continues its transition to cleaner energy sources, NSCC students will be well-positioned to lead the way in innovation and sustainability.
