Aquaculture Quality Assurance

This course is part of a training initiative to provide workers with new skills needed to support a clean economy. It is fully funded by Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery (C2R2) (PDF 207KB).

Overview

This course is designed for those with basic aquaculture knowledge and explores quality assurance in product safety and consumer confidence. It covers key regulations, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) guidelines, risk assessment and compliance with Aquaculture Activities Regulation (AAR), helping participants gain expertise in safe practices and responsible aquaculture. In this course, you learn to:

Describe quality assurance processes and related tools used in the aquaculture industry.

  • Explain how farmed seafood is handled and processed as identified by the CFIA.
  • Conduct a risk assessment and hazard analysis for seafood processing and handling within an aquaculture operation.
  • Prepare a report of operational requirements according to AARs.
  • Describe farm operations and husbandry in an aquaculture Farm Management Plan, adhering to regulations and best practices.

In addition to the program being fully funded, there are student support funds available including urgent aid and disability support funds.

Admission requirements

Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have been granted refugee status in Canada ages 18+.
