Orientation

Starting at NSCC? Your program begins with New Student Orientation on September 3 – an event designed to help you prepare for the great year ahead. Your campus will email you your orientation schedule in August.

Orientation is an important part of your program and designed to help you:

  • Meet your faculty and advisors
  • Get familiar with the learning environment
  • Explore the supports and services available to you
  • Learn about safety on campus

Orientation helps to set you up for success at NSCC. Please attend.

Get ready for the year ahead
We want you to be successful at NSCC. That means getting a great start to the year ahead. Check out the range of webinars, videos and in person sessions to support you as you begin the academic year. Improve your learning skills, find out more about health and wellness programs, and explore the many learning supports available to you. It’s all here for you.
Prioritize your health and wellness

View your class schedule
Students are automatically enrolled in all classes after tuition is paid. Class schedules will be available three weeks before classes begin. View your class schedule
Explore supports and services on Connect, your student intranet

Connect is your student intranet for everything you need while studying at NSCC. Visit Connect to stay in the know and access all your supports and services, such as:

  • Accessibility services
  • Technology supports
  • Testing services
  • Tutoring and peer assisted learning
  • Writing support
  • English as an Additional Language (EAL) support
  • NSCC Libraries resources
  • Health and wellness supports
Access tools and technology

By the end of December, you’ll have access to tools and technology that you’ll use frequently as an NSCC student. Take time to familiarize yourself with:

Request your student ID

Your student ID card is an important piece of identification. To be eligible to receive a student ID card, you must be a registered NSCC student with a valid w# and password. Learn how to receive your student ID.

Complete your safety courses

As an NSCC student, you are required to take two online safety courses (with the exception of those enrolled in the Adult learning Program):

  • Introduction to Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (SAFE 1000)
  • Introduction to Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act (SAFE 1001)

Learn how to learn
Build a foundation for your college studies by learning how to learn. Read College 101 to learn about goal setting, finding college supports, managing your time, note-taking, test-taking, study skills, tips for completing assignments and much more.
Buy your books
You can purchase course materials online for delivery or pick-up at any campus bookstore location. Order textbooks and view bookstore hours.
Read the Student Advising Handbook
Grab your copy of the NSCC Student Advising handbook on campus or read it online.
Check your NSCC email inbox
Once classes begin, all NSCC communications will come to your NSCC email inbox and we will no longer use your personal email to contact you. It is important to check your NSCC email every day for important updates from your instructors and NSCC staff.
Manage your NSCC password
If you are an NSCC student or employee, you can change or reset your password.

You must be enrolled in the password recovery tool to do this. Enrol in the NSCC password recovery tool.
