College update - Flooding, Provincial State of Emergency
Jul. 23, 2023 – Statement
Due to torrential rain and relentless thunder and lightning, on July 22, the Province of Nova Scotia issued a state of emergency to call on resources to support recovery efforts. The devastation of another historic and tragic weather event has had the worst impact on the communities of Lunenburg and Queens Counties, through Halifax and East and West Hants Counties.Currently all our campuses are open. If there are any changes, we will update the closures section of nscc.ca. A few important notes:
- Lunenburg Campus opened its doors over the weekend to flooding evacuees. The Red Cross comfort centre operating out of the campus will close at 5 pm today.
- While operations are continuing, we are aware once again that members of our College community have been affected due to evacuation orders, property damage or broken transportation links. As with the recent wildfires, we know this could impact the ability to work and learn.
- There are also provincial EMO directives regarding travel in affected areas. Please adhere to that direction. If uncertain, check with your supervisor or faculty to help ensure that needs such as hotel rooms/roadways are available for those involved with essential travel.
As this situation continues to unfold, please stay informed. There are resources listed below for direction.
